Millions in the U.S.
suffer today from chronic illnesses that are not very well understood
and often misdiagnosed. IBD is a prime example. Many of these diseases
are immune system related and it is believed genetics play a very important
role… Over the last 20 years our research tools, especially in the
field of genetics, have advanced significantly and experts believe that
through intensive research a cure to many of these illness can found.
KFF wants to help advance research in these areas and has adopted the
following:
Mission statement
Supporting medical and scientific research in
the areas of chronic illness including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative
colitis, and supporting programs that improve
the quality of life for patients with such chronic illnesses.
|
 |
Vision:
KFF’s vision is to help find a cure for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s
disease through cutting edge research and help in financing
underdeveloped
areas of research.
Plan:
KFF’s funding in this area has been in the form
of grants awarded to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America
(CCFA). KFF’s
Medical Committee reviews research grant proposals
and makes its recommendations of funding for final Board approval.
